The Best of Roatan's Island Excursions
As we start to see the light at the end of the tunnel and think ahead to when it becomes safe to travel again, it’s exciting to daydream about all the adventures we are going to take. Well, here’s some inspirational content. While many may have sought a tranquil tropical vacation to destress from the demands of work and life responsibilities, there are still many reasons to venture away from the comfort of the resort grounds to experience all the excitement the island offers. Roatan is full of activities and adventures for guests of all ages, and the following are just a few of our favorite ways to spend the day. For your convenience, we arrange all of the activities for you.
Diving and Snorkeling
If there is anything the island is renowned for, it is the world class diving and snorkeling. Roatan is home to the world’s second largest reef system, heading the top of the list in the Caribbean. Guests can visit the magical underwater world composed of shipwrecks, coral gardens, and the sea’s most magnificent creatures. Divers can expect to see dozens of tropical fish varieties, sea turtles, dolphins, and eagle rays. Whether you’re a veteran diver or a first-timer, we partner with the best dive shops to ensure that you have a safe and memorable excursion.

Canopy Tours
The adventurous adrenaline lovers should make sure to stop by one of the local canopy tours. Your personal guide will outfit you with a harness and securely strap you to a zip line hanging high in the treetops of the island jungle. Sailing through the rainforest canopy, you’ll get some of the best views of the island, and even catch a glimpse of some of the native tree-dwellers and flora and fauna along the way.

Tabyana Beach
Xbalanque resort is a short 10-minute walk or 5-minute water taxi ride away from Tabyana Beach, the most pristine white sand beachfront on the island. From there you can rent jet skis, go water skiing, or take a dip in the crystal-clear water. You will also find several restaurants serving fresh local cuisine, and native artisans selling handmade jewelry, artwork, and pottery. Tabyana Beach is the perfect place to spend the afternoon immersed in the culture of the island.
Nature Parks
For guests who want an even closer look at some of the island’s native wildlife, consider visiting the Gumbalimba Nature Park and the Roatan Institute of Marine Sciences. Gumbalimba Nature Park is a short walk from the resort, where guests can see free-roaming macaws, white faced monkeys, and even get a photo with a resident sloth. Travelers more interested in sea life can schedule a dolphin encounter at the Roatan Institute of Marine Sciences where you can swim with the awe-inspiring creatures.

Golf
There is a brand new Par 3 golf course located just 10-minutes from the resort. It’s not often that you get to tee off to beach and ocean views. Black Iguana Golf Club is designed to be a challenging course that can be played in 90 minutes or less to give visitors an unforgettable playing experience while leaving room for all of the other Roatan sights and activities.
Fishing
Xbalanque has its own private fishing boat waiting to take guests out on the open sea. There is nothing quite like taking in the views of the island from the water. While you’re enjoying the sun and the salt water breeze, toss you some fishing lines and you’re sure to catch a tuna or wahoo. If you do, our chef at Lotus will be happy to prepare your fresh catch for dinner. If you want to explore the region a little further, nearby islands like Utila and Guanaja make for the perfect day trip.

While we strive to create an environment so inviting and comfortable that you never want to leave Xbalanque, we encourage you to get out and explore everything that makes the island so special. The activities we have described are the ones that caused us to fall in love with the island enough to make it our second home, and we invite you to do the same. We can’t wait to help host and serve you again, as soon as we are able to do so. Stay safe.
